    Sgian Achlais

As a reenactor I should know this. But I am loathed to admit that I don't. How does one carry a Sgian Achlais. I know that it is termed an "armpit knife", but how does one actually carry it? I have searched and searched to no avail. I currently just put mine on a leather lace and wear it across the chest with the whole thing hanging at my side similar to a shoulder harness for a hand gun. But I was wondering if anyone on here wears one with their kit, and if so how do they wear it. My method just isn't that practical for retrieval or re-sheathing.

The Sgian Achlais is an armpit knife and it is not unusual for the sheath to have a small clip attached to it so that it can be slid on to a waistcoat armhole. Something like a modern clip from a mobile phone holder for the waist area. It was never meant to be a knife that was "on show" but used as a weapon of last resort. I have heard of other methods of the sheath being a type of a over the shoulder holster. I think all the methods require that some form of jacket is worn

    That's my understanding too.
