Found - after many years searching: the original MacRae of Ardentoul

After almost 30 tears of searching and chasing obscure references I've managed to track down with the help of a friend the original Highland Revival Jacket c1820-30 that belonged to Col John MacRae of Ardentoul.

It's a beautifully made piece, classic of the period and yet another long lost relic rediscovered. Finding it also allows the sett to be confirmed. Needless to say, the previous records were incorrect.

What a gorgeous tartan jacket! This would look splendid with Highland evening attire - slightly modified of course for our modern era (buttons), but not too much! Congratulations on such a terrific find, Peter!

Hummm! I really need to get my hand of the jacket but that won't be for a while. And there's more where that came from!!

As for the tartan, there's very little to say: Wilsons' cloth, probably a one off for MacRae of Adentoul with clear references to the Prince's Own/MacRae. I bet that originally there would have been a matching kilt or trews but no sign now unfortunately.
