Thanks for the clarification. What are you working on these days?
Well, that's a bit OT for this thread. I have two pairs going and hope to show a finished set soon -- in fact, one with cuffs grafted to the body!
Now back to Grizzly's question. . . \threadjack

No worries Sydnie, am interested to learn about the attachment of hose tops to main body. Until I received this latest hose I wasn't aware that this was a potential issue.

For example, see this page from Matt's website, which says in part "The tops of our hose are hand knit from 100% superwash wool in the colors and pattern of your choosing. They are then affixed to a solid color sock, machine knit from a Merino wool blend by House of Cheviot in Hawick, Scotland."

Of course we should point out that this link goes to a page which is talking about New House Highlands custom kilt hose,
and not the HoC Harris hose, which were the subject of the original question.

Many of the House of Cheviot's kilt hose styles are made by stitching a decorative top onto a sock base. The Lewis, Rannoch, and any of the themed top hose are made in this way.
Some are not, however, including the Glenmore and their new Pipe Band socks.
As for Harris, these are made all as one piece with no stitching; and yes, they are made so as to be able to stretch and fit a 26" wide calf.
The hose you show in your photo look similar in style, but House of Cheviot Harris hose do not have the stops stitched on like that. I'm thinking your hose were made by a different company.

Matt thank you for your excellent insight and for explaining the difference between the styles. I thought it was too good to be true. However for £15 they are still a bargain. I would surmise that indeed the hose I bought are not HOC Harris hose but a facsimile.

Sorry, Simon, I forgot to mention, mine are from the LEWIS range (not HARRIS)! Yours look almost the same.

Thanks David, whilst mine do look like HOC I think they are most definitely not. They certainly wouldn't fit anyone with more than 18" calves, which for most is not a problem, I guess I will have to get a proper pair of HOC Harris and I can then do a side by side report.
