A waste of money?

Today i informed my wife of my plan to buy another kilt.
She said, what will happen when i don't want to wear kilts any more? what about all the money I've spent?

I doubt that you will give up wearing kilt because I don't think you have any desire to wear pants again.

Happiness and comfort are priceless commodities, along with other things in life, which include in your case a loving wife, kids living life through all its confusion. You have a job you feel very passionate about, your life is centered on your faith, and you know how to live life to its fullest.

I know that you have been kilted longer that a year, but $2,000 divided by 365 is a little over $5.00 a day for kilts and accesories. It is easy to spend that just by getting a Guinness, or buying a meal, so what I am trying to say is that you can cut down on food and drink, which will do your body good, and kilt wearing will do your soul good. All for the same price.

I envy those that have made a total and complete switch to kilts, as you have done, Graham. If you have made that switch, and have done so over time, I beleive that you have done it for good.

I have to relegate my kilt wearing to my personal life exclusively. My boss has said "No kilts at work... period." The police service may be the last fortress of oppression. But I sit at my lunch, dreaming of quitting time and getting out of me bleedin' trousers... and into my kilt.

Enjoy the freedom, Graham. In your position I would tell my wife, "I'll stop buying kilts when my inventory surpasses the number of pants I used to have.

WOW ! I too have a wife that seems to think this is a phase! I have yet to make kilt wearing a full time thing, but I'm trying! The new USAKilt will help in a big way!

I thought about that a while. Sure I cannot think of why I would want to stop wearing kilts, and sure I've spent a lot of money. I tallied up about $2000 since my first fix of kilting

But this made me think about the commitment kilting is in every way, financial, emotional, social...there's a lot to it isn't there!

Graham, considering only the financial commitment, I DREAD to think what I have paid out for my Kilt Kollection! It must be at least ...........No, I just cannot think about it! It would scare the pants off me ( ) if I did the calculation.

In many respects, mostly selfish ones, I am fortunate in that I don't have to seek the permission of anyone else before investing in yet another indulgence.

Glen, when you break it down like that!! actually it's over 2 years, so that's $2.50 per day, cost of a cuppa!!

Yes I think I do need to give up a bit of food, I've done another hole in the kilt straps

Tobie, I understand your situation, the Police Force would be a very difficult job to do kilted, are you office bound or out and about?

It's easy for me, I'm self employed, whenever I ask my boss if I can wear a kilt, he always says "yes"

My wife had that question after the first few kilts I ordered. Of course by the time I ordered my first I already had 8 homemade camo kilts. This was 3 months after I made my first. Now that I have 10 public (a few mistakes I keep for 'house kilts' and don't count) camo and 5 tartan kilts (soon to be 6) my wife doesn't even question if I am going to wear them. She has even talked about getting a tartan skirt or two for her to wear. When I decide to get another she gives me a hard time but this is kind of a game now.

Even if you decide to 'go to the dark side' later what's wrong with that? Changing one's mind is always an option EXCEPT if there are lawyers involved!

the thing is Jamie, BK (before kilts) I spent very little on clothes, I cared little for appearance, in fact I HATED buying clothes for myself, but I loved buying dresses for my wife. Yes, I'll make sure I continue that.

The women, God bless 'em, they just don't understand. they seem to think this is some sort of temporary fad or some such thing. Like 6 months from now, Graham will be tired of his kilts and go back to shorts. .... riiiight!

OK, 2000 $Au... that's what, 1500 Us$. A pittance really. On the other hand you could tally up the manyfold thousands of dollars more you spent on trousers over the years and where are they?

This is money spent on clothing that will likely outlast you. I'd say that was a good deal, wouldn't you agree.
