    Kilt in "Storage Wars"

If this has been posted before, I couldn't find it...

I was watching Storage Wars last night. Not sure if it was a new episode or a re-run. But one of the units contained a box with a kilt and piper's plaid (?) in it. I didn't get a real good look at the tartan - it looked like one of those Irish tartans to me, but I'm not certain. Anyway, the buyer (Barry Weiss, annoying as he is) got it looked at by an "expert" who in this case happened to be Rowdy Roddy Piper. It appeared to be a full 8-yard tank, hand-sewn. Rowdy Roddy Piper told him he'd give him $1000 for it all.

Anybody else see that episode? Did you get a better look at the tartan?

Haven't seen it. Roddy has more money than brains... or than I!

Barry, on the other hand has both the money and the brains - especially if he could get someone to take the kilt off his hands for $1000.

I believe the values they asses are very unbelievable.

I fancy my self as a vintage-present skateboard collector, and have collected over 100 mint decks and 42 complete skateboards. Some of my collection is extremely rare and I keep up with current market pricing.

Storage Wars comes across a bin with a few thrashed mid 80's skateboards amongst the lot. The prices they came up with were so ridiculous. Even if these boards were in mint shape, never griped or skated they would get less that 1/4 of the estimated value... and these finds had been used, abused and delaminating. I laughed my **** off!

I take the show with a grain of salt... I love seeing the finds, but feel its staged drama and false estimated values.
And when they find gold and old coins... somehow I find that so hard to believe.

The kilt episode ran again last night, at least in our market. They went to the Tam O'Shanter restaurant in Los Angeles for the "evaluation" and Roddy was wearing p@ants. . .

What really caught my eye was the seemingly poor workmanship on the kilt. In one fleeting close-up, you can see little puckers up and down the fell where each "invisible" stitch has pulled the fabric askew. I was able to freeze that shot and Bob saw the same effect.

I do agree about the unrealistic values thrown around for everyday and "collectible" items. But I can believe some of the valuables found, being one of the those folks myself who say "I'll just put this somewhere safe" and then never being able to find it again!

I caught that episode recently, as well. Sorry didn't catch the tartan. I also had a good chuckle at their "expert". As I always like to say, "x" is an unknown quantity, and "spurt" is a drip under pressure. I also have commented to my beloved that I don't think they have two clues as the go through all those boxes saying "I can get $50 for this...and $100 for that."

Vintage skateboards TJ? I'm having a flashback to 1978 - homemade deck, gullwing trucks, big green kryptonics. Blimey!
