    royal stewart tartan

I have a lady friend whose mother is a Stewart, can she wear a sash in the Royal Stewart tartan?
    Other recommendations?
She is my wife's dear friend. Just for the record

Stewart's a universal tartan; anyone can wear it...

    Pictures are required!

That sounds like a very good reason to me to wear any of the Stewart tartans.

As has already been mentioned, the Royal Stewart is now considered a universal tartan, although that was not always the case. Given your friend's mother's surname it would be more appropriate to wear one of the clan affliiated Stewart tartans, Old Stewart being perhaps the most logical.

Maybe your lady friend's Mom could become a piper. Then there would be no issue with Royal Stewart.
