Playing guess the tartan is tough

Alright, so I'll lead with my opinion that this is in all likelihood just an imitation, at best... I beg off by saying that I really like navy blue, and thought it would make a fairly nice looking great kilt.

In any case, I've tried to see if it was even close to an existing tartan, and am having no luck at it. It's bound by sheer probability to be a one-off of something... nothing new under the sun and all.

It's navy, with red, and white... and a string of tan/yellow on waft and weave both.

It's a Trade sett with a different warp and weft. Look closely at the gray square and you will see two orange/tan stripes in the warp and only one in the weft.

I see the second tan/orange stripe in both directions. It's faint and difficult to see, but it's there.

Figheadair - could you help with my education and explain what you mean by "Trade" and also can you compare and contrast against a Tartan pattern to help me better distinguish a tartan material from other types of patterns?

Yes, with the aid of Photoshop I can see it. So, a balanced warp and weft sett; but still a Trade pattern although undoubtedly it will have a house name.

Trade means that it's a commercial 'fancy' pattern intended for general use as a check/tartan rather than being designed as a named sett for a specific family, club, event etc. Not quite sure what you mean by '......compare and contrast against a Tartan pattern...'?

Thanks much for the help... as I will likely be wearing it at least one or two weekends during the coming ren fest season, if I can't find a house name for it, I may just make one up. I really just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious about it before I took that step.
