    Another Wal-Mart Story

Yesterday was the weekly store run but we needed some extra things so we went to the local Wal-Mart Superstore. This is something which is not uncommon (Wal-Mart Kilted) but when I was making my way down the isle watching for cross traffic a woman crossed infront of me out of a side isle and on turning to pass beside me she let out a gasp. Her faced brightened and she made a comment that if we were in New York now the local Highland Games would be going on. She continued that she was from New York and her husband was from England with family and friends from Scotland. She continued saying that they had just moved to Texas and she wanted to know when all the Celtic events were in the area. We talked for about 10 minutes and her final comment was that seeing someone in a kilt made her feel like she was at home and she thanked me for being kilted.

Well, this would have been enough to make my day but 5 minutes later in the dairy section another woman approached my and stated with "I just have to ask..." NOW, my wife was there and I was ALMOST ready for anything but she asked about what tratan I was wearing. From there she stated that her Great Grandmother was from Scotland and she was doing acestral research and that another relative was also researching a line to England and Scotland. After another 10 minutes we parted.

Just goes to show you never know who you will run into at Wal-Mart!

What a great story. I've been to lots of stores including Wal*Mart and mostly get double takes and over -the-shoulders. Once in a while there's the occasional "where's the pipes" comment or sometimes "what tartan?" Folks in my area tend to be shy about commenting at all. Were you wearing tartan, plain, or camo?

Ever have anyone do a double take and walk right smack into a pole or a display? Just curious.

A stalker! How mysterious Enjoyed the story Richard. I too have had gentle ladies wanting to ask a personal question, as I brace for the one I was expecting, it usually ends up being, where I got the kilt, or like you what is the tartan. Gotta love it

    Great story Richard,

I think I'll go kilted next time I'm down the shop's. Trouble is no one, and I mean no one ever ask's anything. They just try and glance slyly. This of course is great fun If I see it Because I always. Nod or smile. The "I've caught you look" I call it . My wife thinks it's fun too. It's becoming a sport with us if out together.

    Keep shocking 'um Richard......
