    Miah,
That's one of the ideas I tried in the beginning of Bear Kilts.
The flow is not be as nice as when the pleats are all going the same way.

And I think I've solved the problem of the outer apron's left side curl. It worked on one kilt. If it works on the next one, I'll know it wasn't a fluke.

I am glad this has brought up good conversation.
I love the look of a kilt pleated to the stripe but some tartans just don't leand them selfs to it, but i also learned that pleating to the stripe is not as deep a pleat normaly. The next kilt i get is going to be a 8yrd Heafty kilt. I enjoy the feel of a few lbs of material around the hips.

    THAT'S THE SPIRIT!!!

Look at it this way. You can buy two or three thinner and possibly poorly-made kilts, or one that you can have as an heirloom. That Scottish-made, hand-sewn, 16-ounce "TANK" is going to be with me forever. First, it's going onstage, then it's going to my Wedding. It's going on tour in Ireland next Summer, and be worn proudly for YEARS. Then, it will be passed down. If I'm going to spend that kind of money on kilts, it's going towards something that will last.

Know your tartan and know your kiltmaker's reputation. Trust the longtime kilters and their successes.
