Packing for my honeymoon in San Francisco
Since we got married right around Christmas and most of our family was staying in town for the holidays, we decided to wait a little while after getting married to take our honeymoon. But at the end of the month, my bride and I are going to hop on the California Zephyr to San Francisco for a 2 week stay.
I'll be packing my kilts, of course, but I wonder just how much I should pack. We'll be visiting a wide variety of places, and don't have a lot of concrete plans yet, so I want to pack a small amount of gear that will cover many outfits. I'm really regretting not yet owning a jacket suitable for wearing with a kilt, except the converted tuxedo jacket I wore to my wedding. I suppose a waistcoat will do in most situations.
I've never been on a train, besides light-rail commuter trains - and I've only visited San Francisco briefly on a business trip, so I'm pretty excited. And, you know... honeymoon.

Good thinking on the waistcoats. A change of waistcoat and/or tie changes the whole look of an outfit.
I will give one piece of advice - "Kissing, while holding hands, causes babies." If there is any likelihood of there being even the smallest amount of kissing - wear gloves. I personally never travel far without a pair of stout, industrial grade gauntlets in the car, because you just never know ...

Good advice, Chas. I'll make sure to pack a few pair.
If a mod could fix my typo in "San Francisco" in the title, I'd be forever grateful. I was too eager to get out of work when I posted this, I guess.

Enjoy the journey and the visit to the west coast. If you were coming any further north into the pacific NW we'd have to meet up. Maybe there are a few nor-cal members here that can host this young man and his bride for a good warm bay-area welcome dinner. What say you rabble?

Have fun on your honeymoon. My new wife and I are currently on our honeymoon in Niagara Falls and having a great time. I got all dressed up in my kilt, waistcoat and jacket and my wife in her best dress and had dinner at a Brazilian steak house. So much fun to walk around and have people see the kilt and get a smile on their face. I wish you all the best on your honeymoon!
Wish we had known about kissing and holding hands, I'm pretty sure we are doomed! ;P

Congrats and have fun, you'll be riding the rails I work on between Elko, NV and Reno, NV. I have also worked over Donner Pass.

Congratulations mate and I'm sure you'll enjoy your special holiday. Me and the missus were there for our 25th last year. A fabulous city.

Congratulations to you and your bride, no need to say enjoy yourself, you can't fail in the City by the Bay. Just try not to leave too much of your heart there! And don't worry about the jacket too much, in 18 years of visiting the Bay Area, I only remember wearing on half a dozen times and that for formal business meetings.
Regards, Sav.
