My LYS* doesn't carry Gutermann thread but I've matched up some Coats & Clark Dual Duty XP numbers. Anybody who thinks they have a better match (perhaps your LYS ordered in the special HPLovecraft collection for Halloween?) please feel free to contribute, as well as anybody who has Gutermann numbers to throw in the mix.

Dark green 6790 ("Dark Spinach" -- don't tell me the Great Old One has gone vegan? )

    Light green 6850

    Purple 3250

The light green and purple seem brighter than the tartan but I think it is like seeing high-gloss and eggshell finishes in the same paint color. At least they are as close as I could get, given the selection and my eye for color.

    Hope this helps!

Sydnie; Thanks for posting the thread colours. That was incredibly helpful and I appreciate the trip you took to the fabric store for me. I've been able to get started with matching the velvet and sent the numbers to the hose knitter for pre-lim matching. I got a shipping notice, but I won't get anything for a while yet.

Glad I was able to help, DC. Just hope my matching was close enough for your purposes!

I just received the shipping notice for my USAK 5 yarder. I feel the high tide of madness coming.

I don't understand this references to R'lyeh, that was in a story by H.P Lovecraft. I don't recollect any mention of tartan, plaid or even breeks in any Lovecraft books, unless At the Mountains of Madness was somehow about the Highlands.

Check these threads for some of the background to this tartan project.

    Don't overthink this, BTW.

Splendid! The new sett colours really are dead on to the originals. If anything the stripe in 'the colour out of space' is even shiftier and harder to pin down than in the original sett.
