I expect he doesn't want a heavy weight hanging in front of the family jewels, or he just likes pockets.

Of course, today's liberated gentleman may drink beer, fight and sport pockets in his kilt.

That guy seems like he likes picking fights. He made a crappy comment to something I posted too. Just ignore the clown.

This is a regrettably vituperative contribution to the discussion. If Guardsman enjoys wearing a sporran and it meets his needs, fine. I neither enjoy the dangly thing in front of me nor does it hold enough for my typical needs. As for jeans – I don't own any at present (haven't bought any for around ten years) but am sort of intrigued by the idea of a denim everyday kilt and might well get one sometime. With pockets, of course.
Thanks to Kalok Sundancer, Knotty, and O'Callaghan for their friendly responses.

Sporrans aren't everyone's choice.
I would wear a sporran with a formal kilt and indeed I usually wear a sporran with my tartan Freedom Kilts even though they have a pocket, because personally I think a tartan kilt looks better with a sporran, but for casual wear I prefer a Utilikilt or a denim kilt with pockets and no sporran.

A black kilt always looks so smart - the Cornish lads wear them these days - usually casually with boots and leather hats. They can be dressed up too, and I wear black top to toe when going to beat my drum for the morris dancing, though for parades I do wear my red shoes, a long plaid and crimson silk face mask.
