I finally understand why some folks dislike button down shirt collars. Now that i have been noticing them, i don't much liek the way they get all scrunched and wrinkly either. Bummer I have so many in the closet.

For those new to non-button-down collars and are wanting to look at your sharpest, then you may need to get a pair of collar stays/stiffeners. These help keep the collar "points" straight. Often the new shirt arrives with a pair of plastic stiffeners already in place on the underside of the collar in a wee slot/pouch either side of the collar. ------Sometimes these plastic stays are sewn into the shirt so nothing can be done to improve things----------- .These removable plastic stays work quite well, but more solid ones are better. These are made of silver, brass, aluminium, ivory, bone or some such. WARNING! REMEMBER to take them out BEFORE putting the shirt into the washing machine!
To those who don't know what collar stays/stiffeners are, they are the silver boat shaped things just above the pocket watch.

You generally get a "free" (read: included in the price) set of brass ones with Charles Tyrwhitt shirts; which is a nice touch.

Just a quick note, Charles Tyrwhitt are doing a "4 for £100" special right now. That's a good deal.

Well I hate to boast (well actually that's a "lie") but I've just managed to get one for the princely sum of £12.90 including postage! They sent me a voucher for £10 off with no minimum order and they happened to have a tatershall shirt in my size in their clearance section for £17.95 so the shirt only cost me £7.95 and the postage took it up to £12.90 so four for a hundred quid sounds quite expensive!

Remind me to take you with me when I buy my next house.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I glanced at that website address and read it as something quite different... for a moment I thought that the world's oldest profession had set up online.
