Hey Dr. D,
Good question! Here are some care instructions for you. Hope these help.
PV... Wash cold / Hang Dry. Doesn't NEED Ironing, but it looks much nicer if it is ironed.
Wool / wool blends... Dry Cleaning. Rather be safe than sorry.
Cotton Poly... Wash cold / Hang Dry. NEEDS Ironing every time you wash. Hate to Iron? Get a Philabeg (sewn in pleats).
Which need the least Ironing...
Which Model? Philabeg. Which Material? Poly Vis. Example... I have Traditionals made from PV. When I wash them, I don't HAVE to iron them (if I'm in a rush). I would recommend taking the time to iron them though, as it "flattens them out" and takes out the wrinkles. The Philabeg "evolved" b/c I hated to iron. I sewed in the pleats on the very edge so they stayed nice and crisp even in the washer. Ironing a Philabeg (especially one in Cotton Poly) is made MUCH easier b/c you don't have to be precise and line up the edge of the stripe in the tartan and carefully press it... the edge is SEWN IN! This is truly the "lazy man's knock around" kilt.
I hope these helped clear some things up!
