Bren, the version of X Marks that you are viewing on your mobile device is probably the desktop version and not the mobile version.
How do I know this? Simply because there is no mobile version of X Marks.
X Marks is viewed by the majority of its members on desktop computers. While it is becoming more and more common for members to open and browse the forum on their mobile devices, creating a mobile compatible X Marks would be a VERY big job. Perhaps many hundreds of hours of code work.
The reason for this is that X Marks, as you see it on a desktop, is far from a plain vanilla version of vBulletin. Our forum is highly customized from the Tartan background to the 386 sub-forums to the placement of our advertisers ads with the embedded code to their websites.
A mobile version of X Marks would, in fact, be a complete, stand alone program. It would not only need to look and act like our standard forum but it would have to work seamlessly with the desktop version to keep in sync and up to date.
X Marks is a large forum. Our 17,000+ member and 1 million+ posts attests to that. But in the world of forums there are the real big forums. The really huge forums are about Gaming, Computers and Cars in that order. I know of Gaming forums in excess of 20 million members. I,m a member of a Car forum with in excess of 2 million threads. (not posts, threads)
So while our members can be very proud of the community we have built, X Marks, like our topic kilts, is a niche in the world.
Have you noticed that X Marks does not have any Google ads? No flashing, in your face, advertisements for anything other than kilts? Have you noticed that there are almost no spam posts from Indonesia or China with embedded links to porn sites or Viagra sales? Have you noticed that the members here have a quiet, respectable place where they can spend a few hours with their family?
Well, those are the things that our members say that they want. That is my one, sole, overridding concern and goal with X Marks.
Yes, I could buy and create a mobile version of X Marks. It will come. But not this week. Sorry.

I read and post (this and other forums) primarily with my iPad II and have never had a problem. However, I don't recall having to go back to edit a thread.
Edit: I did just come back to edit - with my iPad.

@ Bren - is it possible you were attempting to edit an older post? Not sure about X-Marks, but most forums that I frequent disable the "edit post" function (as they should) after a relatively short period of time.

I am another iPad2 user who has had no trouble posting or viewing.
Some websites do not like IPads. I've had trouble with airline tickets.
XMTS has been nothing but fun!
Thanks Steve for the service. I've enjoyed reading and my limited posting.

I am unable to edit posts on my desktop now either. Has there been a software update?

Was it beyond the 10-minute time limit? See Steve's post #8 for a list of time (and other) limits on forum activities.
There is a reason that the better (more serious or professional) forums have a time limit on making changes to posts. That avoids potential "squabbles" - as to who said what and when...in the sequence of an online conversation.

Like Bren mentioned, I routinely edited my posts (spelling mostly) days after I originally posted them. You can just look at the last edited time stamp compared to the date the post was originally made to verify this so I find it puzzling that this is not new.
