I've considered this, but I want the waistcoat and jacket to be of a kind. USA Kilts/Gaelic Themes appears to be able to do it. I wasn't planning on getting a new jacket, but now I'm thinking it might be worth it.

I recently found this place. They sell repro Victorian garb. All sorts of waistcoats with notched lapels. An array of different colors and materials - silk, cotton, wool. Plain & patterned. Prices are reasonable. I've purchased a few from them before. Highly recommend.

I am a lifetime fan of waistcoats with lapels. To me, a waistcoat without lapels looks unfinished in the same way that a suit or a sport coat looks incomplete without a waistcoat. These days, they are a lot easier to find than once they were. For style, quality, and affordability, you simply can't beat Orvis.

They work very well with trousers and with my kilt. The current catalogue has the widest variety and range of waistcoats that they have had for a long time. Something for everyone, I think, from stalking on the hill to savouring a dram and a good cigar at the end of the day for prices which won't break the bank.

Yes the vests the "old west" places sell are often cut straight across the bottom front (like you see Prince Charles often wearing) like these

and I myself haven't had a problem with them being too long (maybe I have a long torso).
