Successful shopping on the Royal Mile last week

    Ham:
I was successful on finding a kilt jacket last week while walking the Royal Mile during a thunderstorm. I didn't have too much time to shop between the tour and the Tattoo that night so it felt as if my wife and I were "running" versus walking the Royal Mile. After several laps around the Mile and checking out all the shops suggested during the course of this discussion, I finally found my informal wool kilt jacket at Nicholson. Must have been a run on jackets just before I arrived because none of the other shop had my size.
to answer Ham's inquiry about what type of jacket I was looking for, I already have my formal jacket-Sheriffmer complete with jabot so I needed an informal jacket for everyday wear.

Our visit to Scotland was just great and the Tattoo was fantastic! One disappointment, though-I expected to see more kilts walking around. Sadly, only kilts I saw were being worn by the shopkeepers.

    Hi CR,

I am glad that you eventually found the jacket you wanted. I know of Nicholsons as a traditional kiltmaker (and not a tourist trap), but I have never purchased from them. Sorry, though that you had a wet visit to the Capital.

Lucky you, getting to see the Tattoo. I've never managed it - probably because I always avoid Edinburgh like the plague during Festival time!!

Yes, the lack of kilts on the streets is always a disappointment. The only times they are really in evidence is when the "Tartan Army" (football supporters) descend upon the city, and occasionally in the evenings when contemporary styles creep out of their hiding holes and are displayed in the pubs and clubs!

Did you enjoy the Tattoo celticRogue? I do envy you! I may get to see it in Sydney next year, but seeing it in it's home town would be special.

    Graham:
The Tattoo was great and the thunderstorm moved off just in time so we didn't have to enjoy it in the rain.
The city really wasn't that crowded despite it being festival time.
