    Goodwill Hunting!

Some days it pays to get out of bed. For the past two days we have been covering secondhand clothing stores throughout Huron County ( in Western Ontario) for possible costume pieces to outfit a steampunk version of Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors that I adapted for a local high school. Of course, I was also looking for kilt related clothing. Yesterday, steampunk did well and I found nothing for me personally.
Today was a whole new ball game. The Fabricland in Stratford had a members only 50 percent off sale. My wife got fabric for the leads' costumes and I got five pieces of beautiful fabric for vests for me (that one of the costume ladies has offered to sew).
On a whim on the way home, we stopped at the Goodwill store, even though we had been through it a week before. There I scored an Aran hand knit sweater in off white that looks as though it has never been worn, a tweed fedora made in Ireland and a grey Harris tweed jacket - all for $21 total. They all fit perfectly and I'm a happy camper!

Ah, the sweet rewards of thrifting! $21, not bad at all for such a solid haul.

Top score on those kilt related items. The Aran knit jumpers (sweaters) look mighty fine with a kilt in winter. Cheers

I regularly trawl the charity and hospice shops near where I work and have yet to find anything evenly vaguely kilt outfit useful...guess UK people just don't let the stuff go.

Well done on your thrifty haul.

Great finds and enjoy wearing them. I tend to hit the local Good Will and Salvation Army thrifts all to often myself but you never know when you will find a great bargin. My most recent score was an Ecru heavy wool LL Bean shawl sweater that was actually in the womens area. It was obviously a mens sweater and fit well. A bit of darning of one small hole, changed the buttons for leather knot buttons and 4 pots of very very strong French Market coffee to dye the sweater darker produced a very nice around the house warmer. My bargin with myself is that if I buy off ShopGoodWill or in the local thrifts I have to go through items Ive not worn in ages. These then are my donations back so that others my have nice or warm clothing....
