    Angie,
Don't really know what the "norm" is! Polyester swimming/beach shorts are very popular in Scotland particularly in pipe bands - very cool in hot weather.

Hi Alan, I meant underwear (panties) the shorts go over the underwear.. but we have something like that here too, instead of wearing a slip a woman could wear those type of shorts that r made to look tight but are not instead of a slip.. polyester blend, with cotton spandex materiel.. that is a thought too .. thank u.. Whether it was wool or other blend fabric I would wear the short type thing over my under garments.. Thank you Alan

Thank u ctbuchanan from Olde New England for your advice as well. I have had alot of advice and I appreciate it. Will def look into the sport kilt fabric . I def don't want to hurt the wool (kilt). we get hot here, humidity is the worse lol.. but luckily I'm like a snake ( as my mom says). The heat has a low effect on me.. But now my kilt order has gone from 7 wool tartans plus 4 sport kilts.. I'm cool with that.. thank u Again

Check out this thread (posts 47, 48, and 49). Yes, that is me in the pictures, and as stated it was 110F the day they were taken. I'm wearing a 5 yard box pleat kilt in 16oz wool tartan. Let me tell you, it is much cooler than my 8 yard, 16oz, knife pleated kilt in temperatures like that.

I own a Casual Kilt from USAK which is Marton Mills 12oz PV (just shy of 5 yards). It does get warm in 100* F weather (but so are shorts).

    I also have a 16oz Wool kilt (5 yards).

    Both are knife-pleated.

Weight of the fabric, the properties of the material, pleating style, and the yardage used seem to be the deciding factors.

Some weather is entirely too hot for a kilt...any kilt. It gets over 100* F here during the height of summer.
Some weather is too cold for a kilt as well. Last night it was 29* F in my neck of the woods. Tonight it may give us a light dusting of snow (fingers crossed).

    Just my tuppence.

As for USA Kilts quality, customer service, and prices you will be hard-pressed to find a better kilt for the money here in the US. I wholly endorse Rocky and his products. You won't find a better kilt for the money unless you go fully-bespoke (which I'm sure Rocky will eventually add to his inventory, seeing as he's started offering box-pleated kilts recently).

The kilt wasn't really designed for US weather! Y'all should come and live where the temperature usually ranges from about -10C(14F) in winter to 26C(79F) or so in summer.
