Welcome to X Marks, Scott, from three counties below you in Sussex, Co. Delaware. Interesting story and it appears that you may have a great opportunity.
I would suspect that given your dad's age, his kilt could be 50+ years old. I would think that you could give that garment a good home and what an honor it would be to wear your dad's kilt.
Not knowing your specific circumstance, I don't want to assume anything but, it doesn't appear that you are a piper yourself. Some of your dad's collection is most likely specific to piping and not really necessary (or appropriate) for THCD (Traditional Highland Civilian Dress). You could, perhaps, consider that as a basis for keeping (inheriting) some of his collection and finding a home for the rest. Depending on your level of interest in wearing kilts (and the appropriate accessories) you may regret not taking advantage of this opportunity. So, if you can, keep some of it to start your own collection with and, indeed, to remember your dad (heritage).
If you are not sure how to proceed, run you questions by the rabble and we will share our varying opinions with you.

Simon Fraser fought as MacShimidh, a Highland chief… wrapped and belted in a plaid over the top of his linen shirt, like his ordinary kinsmen. He put a bonnet on his head, and stuck the Fraser emblem, a sprig of yew, in it. With the battle cry, A'Chaisteal Dhunaidh and the scream of the pipes, they charged to battle.
