Six degrees of separation and new sporran

Today my wife and I went to Stratford, Ontario, to pick up the sporran and belt that I had ordered from Robert of Rkilts. I was thrilled with the rich chestnut brown of the sporran and sporran strap (buffalo hide) and the kilt belt. They are absolute perfection and they fit and adjust like a dream. Sturdy, handsome and well constructed - I am really pleased.

After I got the goodies in hand, we fell to talking and discovered that Robert had been raised in the same city as we had and that we had many people that we knew in common. We were talking about a musician, my closest pal growing up. Robert remembered meeting me with my friend and the fact that we both had old touring Jaguars (purchased very cheaply). This incident happened in 1966 when Robert was very young. What an incredible memory and what a coincidence!
All in all, a great meeting with a fine craftsman whose work I highly recommend.

Did he remember your Jaguar because he was with you when it broke down? That is generally how people remembered mine - a '66 3.8s .

Actually I had a genius friend who kept the Jag (a 57 touring sedan) running beautifully for the occasional bottle of Scotch. Then I moved and found the real cost of Jag repairs and, sadly, had to let it go. I loved that car.

That is because they got their electrics from Lucas Prince of Darkness.

When I was in high school (long, long, ago....) I was at a friend's house when his older cousin stopped by. The cousin took us for a ride in his car. I still remember that Jaguar -- shiny black exterior, red leather upholstery, and something I had never seen before, the dash board was actually, really a 'board' -- it was real wood! They do make a lasting impression.

BTW, where are the pictures of the sporran and belt? No pictures = it did not happen.
