That is unless you ask Clan Campbell who claim you folks as a sept;). Based on your clan crest there must be some credibility to the connection. Still, as the descendants of Thompsons, I'm happy to see Thompsons and MacTavishes stand on their own two feet.

You shouldn't judge a book by its cover. There is a connection to be sure - the Campbells and MacTavishes have been neighbors for well over a thousand years. However the "sept claim" is another matter. The Standing Council ordered that the MacTavish name be removed from the Campbell sept list. To my present knowledge His Grace has thus far declined to comply.
