Blu, I agree with you about action and location shots. However, the reason most of my photos are taken in my home or garden is that invariably I am alone when out and about. It's not easy setting up a tripod, etc. in public places!!

Having said that, I do have some photos taken in NYC, Washington DC, Seattle, London, Edinburgh, etc., etc. but, for Hank's sake I don't want to put them in my personal gallery. How then, can I get them from my CDs to being included in a post?

Terrific Idea Blu, Sorry I just saw this for some reason I am not getting any email notifications of posts or PMs anymore.

I love challenges like this and I will engage-- Here is one from the Museum at the Great smoky mountains.. sorry, I was pretty much alone there, late in the day and school started most places in the U.S. So here is one with more to come!

You all been wanting to see pleats so pleats it is...Looks like it;s hanging low but it actually stikes me at the middle of my knee. This PIC is comming across dark on one of my computers but fine on the others, Is it dark on yours?

This one is at the Lower large falls Graveyard overlook, Blue Ridge Mountains..There actually were several people here, a young lady took this pic for me..

I Just noticed-- There is a Man on the right side of this photo in a plaid shirt, at about 2 O'Clock

This one is above the falls. Also taken by someone else- several people here.

What a view. wish I could put this up full size: Taken by Man with his wife. Large group of kids up here also had me take their pic also. No mention of my kilt. just acted like it was normal.

    Hi Hamish..

There are some small tripods that will fit in your sporran, you can usally find them in camera shops or try ebay.. and you can also just set it up on a rock , table or post as I have done in the first photo you see here.

I have an Ultrapod - it's great for when I need a tripod and don't want to carry a huge, heavy thing.

    JohnAllen,

What great shots, shows why kilts are such great garments Walking across to the rocks is certainly a thing of beauty, only more magnificent with a guy in a kilt

I also want to say the Ultrapod is a great invention! Highly recommended.

The ultra pod looks great for a compact or a digital. I would be a little worried using an SLR with a tele lens though.

I use a bean bag or if I've not got it with me a jumper or jacket on a rock.

I must say thoose pictures in the mountains looked really 1st class .....

    All the best...David.

I'll see your Ultrapod and raise you a bottle pod.

They're always sold out. But since we're a bunch of Do It Yourself kinda people, you can make one really cheap.

That should fit in a sporran pretty nicely.

Thanks for that, JohnAllen. I do have a smaller, but ancient and heavy, tripod such as you mention, and these are fine for unpopulated areas where you can wander off and safely leave tripod and camera to do their job. However, I was thinking more of photo-taking in really busy areas, such as on the street or at crowded events. Asking a stranger to take your photo can work but, in my experience, they don't know the viewfinder from the lens and result in legs or heads being out of the frame!!!

The two photos I have recently posted in my gallery were taken by a friend who fully understands what a camera actually is.

Thanks for the suggestion though. Maybe I will invest in a small, modern tripod, but it won't get much use.
