    Itv central news

I was just watching my local news show and it did a piece on WW1 and they showed a clip of kilted soldiers going over the top I couldn't make out what infantry it was as it was a grey grainy video. So I had a search for a video of footage to show you all and came across ths webpage

Thanks for sharing, Gavin. You really do have to admire the courage of all the brave men who "went over the top" in WW1 but perhaps especially the Scots troops, for whom the gas attacks were even more serious to their health and lives (mustard gas causes severe chemical burns on exposed tissue - a truly horrific "weapon").
    Regards, Sav.

My grandfather, CSM Alexander Hunter Aitken A & S H, went over the top at Ypres, (kilted, I believe) got gassed and wounded, returned alive for fifteen years' convalescence and died. I never met him. I have some pictures of which I will later upload a couple.
