If so, you can also (if you wish) post a variety of options and get additional input on specific outfits--bear in mind, your primary person to please is the one that will be standing there with you in August ;-)
If you do not already own your kilt, is it your intent to purchase a kilt or rent?
Further to the advise here, are you intending on wearing a kilt "post" wedding? If not then renting would be a good option. If you are planning on joining the kilted community, then purchasing the kilt and renting other accessories is an option. A wedding is one of those occasions in one's life where you want to "do it right" (after all you will have the pictures for many years sitting on everyone's shelf or hanging on the wall as evidence). If you plan to buy, don't wait too long.
Cheers and congrats and welcome to the forum.

My biggest piece of advice would be not to wait till the wedding to wear your kilt for the first time. A kilt is not like a wedding dress to be worn once and forever after stored away in a cedar chest.
Kilt wearing is not something you are born knowing how to do. It usually takes a few times before you become comfortable enough to do it well. We have all gone through this process.
My suggestion would be to wear the kilt as often as you can manage before the wedding. Wear it in as many styles and for as many different occasions as you can.
Then when the wedding day comes along you will have a far better idea of how you can wear the kilt, what works and what doesn't.
Wearing the kilt before hand also makes it more natural to wear it afterwards insuring you get your monies worth out of your purchase.

I wear the kilt because: Swish + Swagger = Swoon.

First off Congratulations on your pending nuptials!!! My Wife and I married almost two years ago on the far side of the Columbia river at FT. Vancouver. We opted for a rather formal wedding and as such I dressed it up to the 9's in a very nice looking argyll jacket, five button waist coat and fly plaid with my 13oz 8 yard "Ross Hunting Modern" kilt or "tank" for short (pictures in my profile for a better idea) and toped it off with a balmoral. Let me tell you lad, I cooked in that get up lol absolutely roasted alive! And to make matters worse, I had a shoe malfunction (sole came off one of my brogues) and I had to fit my big old 11 1/2 regulars into some wee size 9 dress shoes that one of my Best Men scrounged up for me. As soon as the vows were exchanged and the formal pictures taken I started shedding accoutrements all over the place, by the time we walked into the lobby of the Hilton that night I was bare foot and had only a Kilt and a half open dress shirt left on lol. So I'm coming from some expirience here. Go with your gut and just wear the waistcoat with a nice dress shirt and tie, forget the jacket and for god's sake don't bother with a fly plaid all it will do is overheat you and pull at the shoulder of your jacket and maybe choke you if you spin to fast while dancing Also there are lots of color choices for kilt hose, you don't have to wear white (I did, but only because my Wife insisted). Oh and make sure you have back up dress shoes and resourceful Best Men for everything else because no matter how good you plan something, surprises will happen! If I can be of any help to you on your journey please don't hesitate to call on me here.
Best Wishes to you and yours!
Carl
Below are the only two shops in town and one down in Salem that I'm aware of that can help you get outfitted unless you're buying online or at the Highland Games this July. As far as wearing the kilt before the wedding to break it in, there are Portland kilted nights out arranged here on X Marks fairly often, keep a look out and jump on one when you see it.

Congratulations on the upcoming nuptuals! (I'm getting married in October).
I would suggest no less than a long tie and waistcoat for your version of semi-formal.

Sorry, guys! I've been busy as I'm sure you can imagine. haha. Thank you all for the kind words and congratulations on the other getting married soon that replied. May it be a festive occasion!
I think I'm pretty set on doing a waist coat with no jacket. I'm also thinking of a bow tie. Would that look weird? I just dig them. Also, what color or pattern do you all think would look good with the Davidson modern tartan?
