Recommendations for guides to clan tartans

I've been thinking I would like to read a book on clans and tartans that is a bit more than just a pocket gem guide and has some awareness of the critical issues (ie not being mistily eyed romantic about the Jacobites, etc.)
I've seen on a second hand website Robert Bain's The Clans and Tartans of Scotland. It looks fairly substantial.

What's it like? Are there any other books to recommend? Preferably I can get second hand?

Romilly Squire and George Way put together an excellent book of this type. It's very thorough, has great illustrations, and includes a substantive history of each clan, as well as useful introductory materials. I highly recommend it.

Its a super book and one that is often in use in my household. Just enough information, which I have found to be pretty accurate, not to be boring and gives lots of leads if one feels inclined to delve deeper.

There's this one book that's very big and thorough. It was published by these two brothers named Sobieski or Stuart, or Hay or something like that. I think it's called the Vestarium Scoticum.
