Nathan, on these cold evenings we are presently having I think a seal-skin bowtie would be very warm and comfortable. I think perhaps you should wear it to your fancy ball in Toronto this weekend and let us know how it is received.

Like Father Bill, I lived through that period. I don't recall ever seeing anything, that even remotely resembled what you have there. Leisure suits were the big thing in those days, at least they were in Northern California.

I can honestly say, I don't miss those days.

Just enjoy it. You probably guessed right.

I can't even dream to draft a proper response... I apologize for my lack of wit. I can honestly say, that I have an event (an annual event at that!!) already in mind wherein THAT would be the most PERFECT bow tie imaginable!

We have a complete set of fine china with an orange and yellow psychedelic design, a wedding present from my brother. The 1970's call from time to time - they want it back. I remember polyester leisure suits, 8-track tapes, and disco fever. But, I never, ever saw a bowtie like that furry beauty you got there, Nathan! It may be unique (let's hope so, anyway).

I have to admit that I was married in 1975 and wore a black velvet version of a bow tie about the size of your's. Not nearly as "classy" as yours (thank goodness)....

I don't know that I'd admit to owning that, let alone document it here with a photograph.....

Keep it. In a former life I worked at a place that had
a monthly "Bad Taste Neck-tie" Day -- it would easily
    be a hands-down winner.

That definitely calls for a "black tie" affair and preferably in a cold climate. In the right place you could be quite a hit. But I think it is better not to wear it with a kilt.
