I'm not ashamed to own it at all! Afterall, the price was right and since I've never worn the thing, I don't have to worry about a photo of me wearing it creeping up...

You might have a valuable item , it could have been owned by Liberace back in the day... of course it would probably have been part of his casual wardrobe .

I found one of the OP's ties on the net that sold on an auction site in 2008 for the princely sum of $21.08 and came in a lovely velvet box. As for the '70s, I was in my teens and early 20's and saw lots of weird clothing. I attended a number of weddings and saw all the different types of suits, shirts, ties and shoes, but never saw a bowtie as the OP has shown. If I had to guess, it may have been a particular symbol or part of the dress of his specific lodge.

Of course, now that the post is "out in the wild" there's always photoshop....

It's not a bow tie, it's a bow tie shaped seal skin sporran! How could it be anything else. Even in the sartorially challenged seventies (or stylistically unique seventies) we would never have actually put that around our neck.

Be careful, Father Bill! I'm pretty good with photoshop and your pictures don't even have another tie for me to cover over. ;)

Give it to your lass and she can wear it on her head. It actually could be quite stylish for holding her hair back!

It could conceivably be worn under the kilt in cold climates, but to answer the original question, "No."

My story is similar. I was married in 1976 in a green velvet version, along with a mint green frilly front shirt and dark green patent leather shoes.
