Perhaps you should venture into one of the better blends. Dewar's 12 year Reserve is an excellent choice or if you want to touch your toe into a slightly peatier dram try the Famous Grouse Black Label. Blends are popular for good reason and are very often a very drinkable alternative to more expensive single malts.

For Christmas, my "born nephew" gave me a bottle of a blend called Label 5. Last evening, my fiance and I decided to watch a new dvd of the 1960 Disney version of "Kidnapped"; so, I made myself a rob roy cocktail (3 parts whisky, 1 part sweet vermouth, and angostura bitters to taste). It hit the spot!

I'm away on business this week and stuck in a hotel on my lonesome. Just cheered myself up with a double measure of Black Grouse. I'd highly recommend it.

Tried out a couple bottles of Bruichladdich lately which is a typical Islay brand, but they make two unpeated varieties in The Laddie (bourbon barrel finish) and The Rocks (french red wine cask finish) that are very nice and very UN-Islay-like, for those of us who prefer something a little less----uhhh---bracing.

My Ruth has just returned from London with an Ardbeg Uigeadail in her hand luggage. Sweet and dry and a bit oily on the tongue. Quite unlike my favourite Ardbeg -- Corryvreckan -- that's full of seaweed and smoke.

My wife just bought me a bottle of Glenlivet "Nadurra" 16 year old, Non-Chill Filtered, cask strength single malt and I'm having a bit before bed. It's very nice. She spoils me!

Last evening, my fiance, Andrea, and I went to a scotch-tasting Robert Burns Dinner. The scotches we had with our seven-course meal were the Glenmorangies 10, Nectar D' Or, Lasanta, Quinta Ruban, and the 18. All were very good complements to the courses.

At our Scottish Country Dance Burns Night, I had a wee dram of Dewars 12 for the toasts, and several wee drams of Old Pulteney 12 (which I brought to prepare me to give the Toast to the Immortal Memory of Robert Burns). Since returning home, I have had several wee drams of Lismore Speyside Single Malt. It is the weekend, after all.
