    The Boy Does Burns

Some time ago I spotted a child's 16oz wool kilt for sale, complete with belt, kiddie sporran and cream coloured socks. It was a give away really but sized 4yrs. Too good to miss, I figured my boy could grow into it.

This last week, his Nursery (Pre-School) group organised a Burns Day for the kiddies which to be fair, was only part of a day that also included the usual Footy, painting and rolling about in muddy flower beds. Despite it's importance to world literature, I would imagine it's quite difficult to keep Lancastrian two year olds engaged with broad Lallans poetry for ANY length of time let alone all day but the idea is sound from a cultural perspective. And haggis is only another type of sausage when you're little (I think they gave 'em sausage, mash and gravy and called it haggis anyway... He loves sausages.)

My wife decided to put him in his long sleeved sweat-shirt rather than have him doing the footy in a bowtie... and he also got paint all over himself before the Nursery leaders got him to one side for his photo... but not to worry, water colour washes off. Needless to say he was the only one there in a Kilt, although they do all know I wear one.

As I say, it's still a bit big for him but it's not like he was going to the St Andrew's Society Ball or anything. He had a lovely day by all accounts... Which is the main thing.
