Kilt Kamp 2014 - Who's up for it?
Hear ye, Hear ye,
Barb and I have been comparing our calendars and we are pretty sure we can fit a Kilt Kamp into this upcoming summer.
As we alternate locations and coasts, this year we are looking at bringing Kamp back to Victoria.
We are looking at a 5 day block of dates sometime between late July and mid August.
Due to space we will be restricting registration to 8 Traditional and 4 Contemporary kiltmakers. X Marks member will, as always, have first choice to register.
We are not yet at the stage to announce pricing, firm dates or to take reservations. We are only looking to see if there is enough interest.
If you would like to express interest please post to this thread. I do ask though that if you are unsure or only a maybe that you state that when you post.
If you have questions about flights, hotels, meals or any details of Kamp please post those as well.
If you have never been to a Kilt Kamp or to Victoria I think you will be very pleased with both. Kamp is a wonderful, tiring, and educational time. Victoria is truly a vacation destination not to be missed.
OK, over to you - Who's in for Kilt Kamp 2014?
Our prospective Kampers
Traditional w/ Barb
1) H. Hastings
2) Okiewan
3)
4) Sydnie7
5) Mary Reid
6) Deesguared
7) Plaid Preacher
8) Dixiecat
9) Thistledubh
10) E. Jefferies
Contemporary w/ Steve
1) Dani Mac
2)
3) Truitt
4) Bruce BC

Steve,
I'd be very interested in another Kilt Kamp this summer. Late July is fine for me but mid August would be my prefered choice. I already have a few ideas about what tartan cloth to bring....sign me up for traditional!!
Cheers!

Would love to do the trad class. Might have my sister Mary (who is on XMarks but not active) along with me.
ETA: Mary says yes! Eagerly awaiting more info and dates. . .

One note I should put out.
Please remember that Victoria is in Canada. Yes, we have phone area codes and you can usually understand us when we speak but it is a whole 'nuther country. If you are coming from the US please remember to bring your passport.
Also, Victoria is on Vancouver Island. This is not the City of Vancouver, British Columbia or Vancouver in the State of Washington. We actually did have a Kamper one year book their flight to Vancouver WA. They seemed quite surprised and upset when someone broke the news.

Put me down for a very tentative 'yes'.
I have been wanting to take a kiltmaking course for some time, but there is no one in the Lower Mainland that offers one.
Luckily, I live very close to the Ferry terminal, so transportation is not an issue.
I would be interested in finding out what the most economical accommodations would be.
Thanks!

I had always wanted to attend one, but due to distance/location, had generally been cost prohibitive. But if it's in Victoria, I'd be seriously interested in attending, now that this particular obstacle would be all but eliminated.

Reminds me of a time when someone coming to a workshop at my digs flew from Alaska to JFK and expected to take a cab to Clinton....at the best of times, it's a 5-hour drive.
For those of you interested in trad kilts, you can choose to do any kind - knife, box, Kingussie, reverse Kingussie - so even if you know how to make one kind, come join the fun and learn how to make a different one!
