    Sporran opinions...

Purchased this earlier tonight on Ebay... around $70 total (about $49 for the sporran, then shipping costs), shipped from Scotland. Thoughts on it? I'm not sure of it's age, but the price seemed right.

Hopefully my impulse buy isn't incorrect!

Fine for formal evening wear. A bit fancy for daywear.

Excellent, as I was looking for a formal piece.

I looks reasonable to me, Derek.

If you want to experiment, you should be able to change the 'danglers' quite easily. For very little outlay you change the look in a minute.

Fur + chrome = formal. The number on the inside suggests ex-hire. For $70 you can't go far wrong as long as you like it.

Is there a short strap with metal rings at either end through the leather flap on the back? If so those dog-lead clips should be clipped to either end of it. Check them for any roughness/sharp edges as they can play havoc with your kilt very quickly. You would pay over £100 for a new sporan so you got a good deal there and a useful bit of evening wear.

Looks like you got a sharp, formal sporran at a really good price. Congratulations, Derek!

I appreciate the feedback, as I've been focusing on getting my formalwear together.

A nice formal sporran. It looks to be fairly recent, probably no more than five years old.

Older sporrans of this style tend to have fronts made of seal fur. Up till the 1970s silver plate, rather than chrome, was still common. Back in the 1950s the closure was generally a sam-brown stud rather than a press stud, and the strap ends were usually stitched rather than riveted.

I hope that helps with the dating.
