kilt for my son
Yesterday I was browsing through one of the local used clothing stores, when one of the girls who works there (after a shower of compliments) said that someone brought in a kilt last week. "Really?" I replied. She went back into the storage area and brought out a kilt which was way too small, but I figured it would fit one of my kids. It's high-quality wool, and says "Made in Scotland" on one of the tags, and she sold it to me for eight dollars. It was certainly the last thing I expected to find in there, and I just had to buy it. I'll try to get some pictures up soon, provided that it actually fits one of my kids. If not, well, I have friends with even younger kids...

Oh man,,, now I'm going to have to start hanging around thrift shops on the off chance that someone drops off a perfectly good kilt??? I wouldn't even have thought that would be a possibility, what do you suppose the odds are?

You never know what will turn up in thrift shops. I've found pins that work well as kilt pins. I even found a tailcoat, but it was too small. As for finding kilts, that's probably rare, but in the US how many people realize the value of a kilt that might have been inherited. They have no use for it so off to the thrift shop it goes.

I found a kilt jacket yesterday at a thirt store and I only paid ten bucks for it. It is definately a Vintage JAcket, and dated 1967.

Philbo,
Good find! I also have seen a kilt or two at many a thrift store, however I would have to do major shrinkage, or eat tons more food to make them fit, and either prospect probably will not happen. I also have found great accesories that would go well on any kilt.

Well, as it turns out, that kilt is too small for my oldest son, and too big for my youngest, so I'll probably have to wait a year or two.

The youngest will grow into it fast enough.

Bubba is right... most folks don't have a clue as to the true nature or value of a real traditional kilt. Any idea what tartan it is? Is it hemmed or has it been noticeably altered?
BTW, I know this is a bit OT but I was curious about the photo titled MET7 in your gallery. The girl in the blue denim.... Someone you know??
cheers,

Nobody I know. Just a complete stranger getting caught staring. I didn't even know she was there when the picture was being taken. Geez, I feel like I should also be on display at the museum. Just don't put me on a pedastal please...
