Is the name 'McClintock' a sept of any clan?

I found myself today, while shopping, engaged in a pleasant chat with a young woman who expressed interest in the Scottish culture. She gave her name as McClintock. I told her I would see if I could find any info for her. ScotClans.com did not have any information on that name nor Clintock or MacClintock. It would appear I have nothing to report to her. Can anyone point me in the right direction or tell me if there is a better source of info? She said she would REALLY like to see her husband in a kilt.

The Clans Lindsay, Colquhoun and MacDougall all claim McClintock. So much depends on geography.

Thanks gentlemen. I'll try to see if her husband (whom I have not yet met) has any idea of ancestral lands. At any rate I've got her interested in going to some highland games, getting her husband into a kilt, and maybe even joining us for one of our Portland Kilted Nights.

It will be interesting to see if it indeed turns out to be Clan Colquhoun.

Amazingly, I'm acquainted with a couple from the Portland area named McClintock (college classmates). Although, the three of us are a ways from being called young, except by early baby-boomers.

There are at least two tartans of that (or similar) name. They can be viewed at ...

    Hi,
Above, Chas said it depends on location? My McClintocks came from Ayr. Can anyone tell me, which do I choose, MacDougall or Colquhoun?

If the lady really wants to get her Husband in a kilt - And wants the kilt to have meaning - And can't tie the name to a particular Scottish Clan or Family -

Then may I suggest The Maple Leaf Tartan. This is the official Tartan of Canada.
There is also the BC Tartan.
    The Hudson Bay Company Tartan.
    The Vancouver Tartan.

All of these are officially recognized Tartans which anyone may wear.
