I'm always suspect of highland games running concurrent with a Ren Faire. I'm actually kind of dreading encountering an entire regiment of Mel Gibsons.

Avoid the 'budget' one! With that one you have to wear your flashes directly in front.

Strange that as you go up in price you still have the cheap-looking white hose.

For £1,000 a decent pair of Cheviot hose and a nice proper sporran...nevermind a proper kilt and jacket!

Heck, even some garter ties, decent shoes, a shirt, and a proper tie!

    That's more than $1,600!

    Wow!

OK, my "ultimate Scotsman". Here we go:

Hand sewn, eight yard, heavyweight kilt £400
    Tweed jacket and waistcoat £280
    Plain day sporran £50
Stout pair of black brogues £100
    Hose and garters £50
    Sterling silver kilt pin £50
    Shirt £30
    Tie £20
    Cufflinks £20

That's £1000 worth of kit, all excellent quality (or better than excellent!) and it took five minutes on the Internet to find it. Just a case of knowing what to look for and where to look for it. I expect a goodly few quid could be knocked off that, especially as shoes, shirt, tie and cufflinks may already be owned and as we all know, there are bargains out there to be had! I really didn't try that hard at all.
