    DIY Sporran

As I've said earlier .I'm working on a sporran from the "So your going to wear the kilt" book.

After a few dry runs with cardboard and plastic I said today is the day. I started work on the end product. Concidering I had to hand sew the stiffning I don't think the result was all that bad. I still have some finishing to do I 'll post more when finished completly. (Look in my gallery)

In the book a Gusset is used. However It seems lage enough without. My friend and I are making one with a gusset to judge for ourselves. So the jury is still out on that one.

Have a go it's not too difficult just take it slooow

    David,

I like what I see! A slow process is always a given on first projects, but it looks really awesome, you make Austin Powers mighty happy

Congradulations!! The horn really sets it off. There is something to be said for being able to say "I made it myself".I am thinking about making another in black with some silver fittings and maybe some tooling. Are you going to make a belt too?

    Great work

Thank you both for your kind words of encouragement it really helps.I've never tried this before.

I'm thinking that the lid needs some enhancing so I'm going to try an edge in a contrasting colour. Also some antler finishing on the leather thongs.I'll also have to make a belt. Something more I've never tried.

I'll post more on my progress soon.

    David,

It's really great to see handmade articles, as opposed to the factory/everything is perfect look.

I think your sporran will look even nicer as it ages.

I believe that the gusset is for formal occasions. You know! All gussetted up.

Awwww! I kind of liked the garbage sack/Spiderman cardboard sporran myself.

That looks really good David. It reminds me of the Rob Roy type sporrans, which always look roomier to me, even if they might not be.
