I am reading the collection of short stories written by John T. Frye for Popular Electronics magazine from 1954 - 1964. This is the Carl and Jerry series. They were two teenagers that built gadgets and escaped danger using electronics and their own intelligence. The stories explained how the electronics worked. No PIC processors or other computers in those days; just basic electronics. Someone collected all 119 stories and put them in a five volume set. I read some of the stories growing up from my dad's collection of Popular Electronics. Now if they would have just added some kilts to the stories....

I'm currently reading "The Tribes of Britain" by David Miles, which is fascinating and incredibly detailed, while maintaining a readable style.

    Cheers,

I'm currently reading "Mornings on Horseback" By David McCullough. It's an interesting read about the early years of Theodore Roosevelt. I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would!

I just read "The Cruelest Miles: The Heroic Story of Dogs and Men in a Race Against an Epidemic.

When a deadly diphtheria epidemic swept through Nome, Alaska, in 1925, the local doctor knew that without a fresh batch of antitoxin, his patients would die. The lifesaving serum was a thousand miles away, the port was icebound, and planes couldn't fly in blizzard conditions—only the dogs could make it. The heroic dash of dog teams across the Alaskan wilderness to Nome inspired the annual Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race and immortalized Balto, the lead dog of the last team whose bronze statue still stands in New York City's Central Park. This is the greatest dog story, never fully told until now.

Very good fast read. Think it gets cold in the highlands ? Think again.
