Eric just out of curiosity how long did it take to receive your doublet from glengarryhats? I thought I came across a post where someone was saying it took much longer than what he has posted on his site. I'm about to order a navy glen and some diced hose tops from there. He has a nice website
Also do you have any pics of your doublet?

If I am not mistaken it was 6 or 8 weeks delivered to my door here in Ontario which was shipped from Western Canada. I am very happy with his turn around time. I have pieced together my entire drum major's uniform from places world wide. My doublet was the most expensive part because I wear a band kilt, and I feel the price was well worth the peace of mind. I do have a horse hair sporran which I purchased on eBay from a Pakistan seller and I was also pleased with their work, but I would be diligent in doing so.
I will to see if I have photos readily available and MSG you back.

Sample photos of my doublet
Due to the nature of my position (show pony with a loud voice as my Pipe Major likes to say) I have a lot of things that go over my doublet, but I do assure you it is there.

Thanks mate! That's looks very nice indeed. One of the reasons I'm trying to be frugal is I also ordered a new 16oz 8 yard from Burnetts. So buy the time you add the doublet, pipers plaid, cross belt and such it'll be a costly expense. I have no worries but explaining to my wife why "I need" these items gets exhausting lol

No worries, I understand as well. The trick is to get your wife involved in the process ;) we made my piper's plaid ourselves by using a pattern found on here, saving at least $250 in labour. Frugal is a word understood very well. All in, less the kilt and the Baldric (band owned) the rest of the items cost over $1,000 but realistically could have been as high as $1650 ...
good luck in your venture. Don't forget to share pictures along the way.

Oh will do. Hopefully kilt will be done in a few weeks. The smaller stuff shouldn't take long to ship. That just leaves the doublet and plaid.
Hats off to you making your own plaid. Looks great from the pic. I've Thought about it but think I'll end up paying the pros. It's an expensive journey but well worth the ride

I agree ... If my wife didn't already know how to sew, and have a mother who is a seamstress I would have to pay for it myself too. It's worth the money they charge in the end if you don't have the skills.
But I must tell you, you should have he same place make the plaid as your kilt to make sure the colour lots and setts are the same for the plaid. If you look the kilt is a slightly more orange than my plaid - which was made 20 years after the kilt. Just a thought.

I know what you mean with different sets. I seen a few differences between mills when kilt shopping. Even noticed differences in pictures between different weights. I'll keep that in mind. Other than a slight color difference yours looks pretty good. I wouldn't even have noticed. What tartan is that? Jhiggins sells plaids for $3 or $400 and asks if your trying to match an existing tartan. So that could be a useful option.

We wear the Ancient MacGregor tartan after the late founder of our band, Pipe Major James Vietch Greig (Jimmy), former Pipe Major of Clan McFarland, Member of the Edinboro City Police, and Blackwatch Royal Highland Regiment.
I bought my red sash from Jhiggins.

Very cool! Where did you buy your material for your plaid? I'd say that was a good buy. Oh and I forgot to add the cost of the feather bonnet earlier but you know that's also a pricey feature. But I'll get that down the road. I'm excited to put this puzzle together. Seems I'm fixated at scouring the web looking for the best "fit" so to say for the wallet. And in a few months when it's hotter than hades I'll be looking at that doublet and plaid and saying to myself "you ordered it, now you gotta wear it" lol
