What should be a minor coding change
Hi,
I generally make it a point to start a session by clicking on the
"New Posts" search.
I often follow this by using the "samples" that appear when I
run my mouse over the thread title to decide whether it is likely
to be of interest. (And, in many cases, I'll decide that I'm not
particularly interested in a thread just by looking at the sub-forum
where it is posted.)
What I think would be useful is a "Hide" button similar to the button
that takes me to the first unread post.
I know that I can go into the thread and block it -- I'm asking if I could
do this from the "Threads with Unread Messages" listing.
Why do I want this? I suspect that I miss threads that would interest me
since they are on the second or third page of the listing. This would
allow me to more quickly remove what I define as chaff from the "wheat".
then a quick "re-search" and more threads that do interest me would
be shown. Over time as I block threads of little interest, I wind up with
a manageable list of new posts to read.
thanks,
-Don

Great suggestion. To add, I find that even if I block a thread by going in, it somehow returns to my new threads search when there is an update to that thread. Easentially making it useleas to open the thread and block/ignore it anyway.

I really don't know if this is your case, but there is a limit on the number of threads that you can block. I don't know what that limit is, but if you've reached it, you just have the idea that blocking threads no longer works. There is no warning. If you go into your list of blocked threads in your user CP and unblock some of the older threads (which nobody is posting in any longer anyways) you will find that your newer blocked threads stay blocked.
