it looks to me like the U.S. Navy tartan. If not the same then very similar. Does this tartan have a different name outside the U.S.?

Yep, it does look like US Navy. Why on Earth would the Dublin Fire Brigade be wearing that tartan?

That is a question, not quite in that exact form though, that many over here ask ourselves, quite regularly!

Not sure it is the US Navy Tartan which has a red stripe in it. I don't see any red in the Fire Brigade tartan. I'm curious as to which tartan it is. There web site doesn't seem to say. Edit: I take that back - one photo I found does seem to show a faint red stripe.

It is definitely the U.S. Navy (Edzell) tartan. If you look closely at the man on the left in the pic you can make out the thin double blue line particularly in the lighter blue squares.

Curiouser and curiouser. Although in one old article I found on the band it did mention that they used to wear a solid navy blue kilt. I posted the question on their FB page about the selection. If someone replies I will put the answer here.
