I got lucky quite a bit I won't kid you there. I was able to source my tartan from Scottish Tartan Museum (one of the XMTS Partners). They just happened to have 4yrds of the right sett of ancient MacGregor (luck!).
Secondly for my feather bonnet, there was a band about an hour away that was changing from a parade band to a concert band and was surplusing older uniforms and they had one feather bonnet left. I was buying regardless if it fit or not lol. I was also able to pick up new never worn hose tops, 2 white belts, and two doublets that were way too small (I had grand thoughts of making patterns to make my own - ha ha), and the grand total for all this? Well not to brag but I was able to get all that for less than what I eventually paid for my doublet. They were just happy to see the uniform parts to be worn again.
Hey wait a second ... What is your jacket size? I still have one doublet in my possession ... It's red with blue cuffs and white piping. Decent shape but its way too small for me.

That's a very good deal indeed. I unfortunately only know of 1 band in my area (Michigan) that wears full dress and I don't think they have any thoughts of changing uniforms. I've learned its good to get friendly with the quartermaster but I always keep my ears open to see if someone is looking to get rid of their pipes or uniform. I just missed a set of a 100 year old hendersons by about 4 months I ended up buying a new silver set of David Naills.
doublet size roughly I'm a 47-48" chest 23" sleeve. A bit short and stout I'm 5'-6" 190lbs.

Too bad about the Hendersons, but you do have it right being in contact with a local band. I believe the doublet I still have is a 44" chest.

I would, myself, switch out the incorrectly made Glengarry Hats shells and put on proper/traditional ones.
The Glengarry Hats shells (at least on their site) have the bars splayed out
Shells in the military have never been made that way, as you can see in thousands of photos and existing uniforms over the last 150-plus years. Rather, the bars are parallel.
Here are actual MOD shells
It's odd that Glengarry Hats' shells would be made that way, because my understanding (perhaps incorrect) is that they get their doublets from Replicaters. I've bought two doublets directly from Replicaters ($135 each) and their shells were correctly made.

Thanks for the heads up Richard but when I pull up that site the bars do look more angled

Not sure if we are seeing the same thing. Hope this pis shows up
Question on though, when you've ordered through replicaters did you do so by web or phone? I find their website to be a bit hard to navigate.
what I do find odd is I'm looking at getting a navy doublet and whilst thinking if I was going to change the shells they are not offered in that color?

Hmmm .... I didn't notice ... I'm perfectly happy with mine though, and with my plaid you only see one shell.
