Thanks AA for the advice but I have worn hire kilts a couple of times and they were actually pretty comfortable. It's just it feels better wearing the kilt at the trouser line though that's probably because it's something I'm used to doing. Maybe I would come to prefer wearing a kilt with a traditional rise and I can certainly see that there are advantages to doing so. I'm actually pretty close to changing my mind.

That is simply that you are not used to wearing anything at your natural waist. I can assure you that, if you decide to go that way, you will get used to it and it will become natural to wear your kilt at this height.

I got one kilt at jean waist height and I never wear it anymore. The rest I own I had made for the natural waist, about 2 inches above the navel, and I wear them whenever I have the opportunity, which for me means whenever I'm not at work.
I'm not trying to change your mind, just saying that kilts just feel more, well, natural at natural waist height.

So after reading through all of this, is it possible to wear a variety of kilts from my wardrobe, some with a low waist (as with my casual kilts) and also at my natural waist with a wool kilt for more formal occasions? Or will switching back and forth feel uncomfortable?

I have a few casual kilts (5.11 TDK, etc) that I wear at trouser waist, and quite a few more traditional height kilts. When I wear the kilt at the height for which it was made, both seem perfectly natural and comfortable.

Sorry to disappoint you but I've decided to go for a low waist, hopefully I won't regret it. I'll be sure to post a picture when it arrives in what is sure to be a long 2 weeks as I'm impatient to have it.
