    Hats revisited

Well, the fall season has started her ein B.C. and the need for a good hat is quickly approaching. I have traditionally worn scally hats the past few years, and plan to continue wearing them. I have also purchased a balmoral recently for certain events where a scally cap just doesn't go. I honestly prefer to have my hair blowing in the wind, but sometimes a hat is needed.

What kind of headwear do you prefer with your kilt?

I mostly wear a tan beret with a MacNeil Clan badge. One day I plan on getting a blue beret. On rare occasion I slap on a boonie hat or cowboy hat.

Right now, I've got a black wool scally and two kangols that I wear. The main reason is because I found them at a discount store for $15 each. I found that after I clipped my hair really short a month ago, that they're a little big now.

I've thought about branching out in the headwear department, but they always seem to be so expensive.

    bonnets on!

I have a plain black balmoral that I wear, with my Clan Cumming Badge and a cockade made from the Chief's livery colours (blue and yellow). For events where our St. Andrew's Society provides a kilted colour party, I have a diced glengarry with a St. Andrew's cap badge.

I have also worn "scally caps", and I just ordered a new ball cap from the RCMP museum in Regina that has the RCMP arms on it -- I plan on wearing that at the games in St. Louis.

I've even worn a slouch hat with a Montana Peak (a la the Mounties or park rangers) when I have been doing some storytelling about the Celtic roots of Cowboys in the North American West! 8)

    Cheers,

    T.

I wear my green Irish cap that I bought 12 years ago. Now and then I'll wear a maroon beret with a black leather Bear Kilts badge. I have a wool baseball cap with the Red Dwarf logo on it that I like occasionally, too.

I am to the point that I wear just about anything, but and I repeat but it MUST go with my kilt, whether it is a cowboy hat, a scalley, a beret, a hiking hat that can go just about any shape I want, or even a baseball cap (Colorado Avalanche preferred).

Well, I can only repeat my statement that I am SO glad I live in the reasonably temeperate conditions we experience here in the south of England. Ok, in summer the sun can beat down in temperatures of around the mid 80's F, and in winter the north wind can have a cutting edge wind-chill of 25ºF or lower - but I very, very seldom wear a hat. I dislike them so much.

I have a Panama for the summer heat, a Harris Tweed cap that belonged to my late partner and a Russian bear-skin hat with ear-flaps that tie up on top (a gift whilst in Russia on a business trip). None of which I like and none of which are really suited to wear with a kilt, but I am not going to waste good kilt-purchasing money on headgear!!
