University of North Texas Tartan Contest

It looks like UNT is having voting for a tartan for the university. Here's the link to the site, with the voting. Tartan C was designed by one of my wife's friend's nieces, but don't let that influence your vote (if you're interested in voting).

I like tartan C. However it is not PC. It is full of microaggression. I'm surprised there haven't been protests.

If I am honest, I can't say that I like any of them. I think that the palette is too limited - oh for a red stripe!

Being an alumni of UNT, I'd always wished we had a tartan. As an RA at Bruce hall back in the early 2000's my wing themes always revolved around tartans and Scottish things. Thanks for posting about it, otherwise I'd have never know about it!

I'm with Chas on this one. Tartans with only 3 colors are a bit difficult (or 2 colors for that matter), but if you added a 4th color (another shade of green?), it would add depth to the design.

Barring addition of another color, I'd re-do it by making it mostly black and green with thin white stripes (or at least reducing the overall amt of white).

I'm with Chas: not impressed by any of them. It's not that one can't make something perfectly acceptable with three colours - the 42nd seems to have stood the test of time - but the shades, particularly the green, are horrid. I don't know if they are the UNT shades but if so it rather nicely demonstrates the problem of starting with a proscriptive design brief and the fact that having access to a design programme doesn't necessarily make one a designer

I rarely comment on tartans, but as we are in the design stage, I am happy to add my support to Chas's, Rocky's and Peter's comments.
