    3D Printed Smallpipes

A friend sent me this link earlier today to a Kickstarter project for a guy who is developing a set of 3D printed bagpipes. (Drones and stocks, the bag and reed are still the same.)

    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...pipes-using-3d

I like the idea and, since I have a large industrial 3D printer at work, I'll probably throw the guy a few dollars for the pennywhistle and chanter files. The video is pretty long and not very compelling, but I hope the project gets backed!

They even sound better than I thought they would!

Those are really neat, and they scare me. I don't know much about 3D printed objects, but those look rather... Flimsy and brittle. If he made them slightly larger, I might back it!

ABS plastic is actually really strong. (Think Lego blocks.) Plus, they're coming out with new materials that you can 3D Print all the time. There's ceramic and metal printers - and there's a guy making a wood/plastic hybrid that's kind of like the fiberboard you can buy at a lumber yard. So who knows what you could print it out of in a couple years!

Everytime I see anything to do with 3-D printing it conjures up images of the Replicator on Star Trek.

Life imitating art. I love it!

He's posted a new video which has a much better example of the pipes being played.

    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...pipes-using-3d

In the update email I got, he says, "I also decided to do my best to challenge the widely held belief that 'the only place you're likely to find a well dressed Smallpiper is on an undertaker's slab'" and is kilted up nicely in the video!
