Question for Scotland residents: What to expect?

    Hi

I'm seeking advice from our Scots citizens and residents; any guidance is appreciated.

Here's the deal--while (whilst) doing some preliminary block scheduling of our upcoming trip to Scotland in September, I realized we'll be there during the Referendum.

If my plan holds, we'll be on Skye on the 17th +18th (and thus away from the major hubs) but I still anticipate heightened road traffic and bits of congestion in built-up areas as the populace turns out.

My question is: what else should we expect on the day? How is a "voting day" treated in Scotland?
Is it akin a Bank Holiday? ... stores closed or open? ... pubs closed? ... in general, how will the event affect a tourist? What else should I know or be wary of?

All guidance appreciated, and many thanks.

A voting day in Scotland means business as usual.
The polling stations are open from 7am till 10pm allowing people to cast their vote before or after their normal working day.
A few schools may be closed, if the school building is needed for use as a polling station, otherwise everywhere is open as normal.
Unlikely to be any abnormal traffic congestion nor should you find any businesses closed for the day.

That's how it is here, too, on voting days, Alex.

Its exactly as Alex says, although given the unusual nature of this particular occasion, there might be some extra media attention.
