Many thanks to everyone for the feedback,I absolutely agree with the general opinion on the jacket and I intend to have it tailored into a kilt jacket.
I generally wear a brown day sporran and green hose but as I was wearing white spats I thought that the semi-dress sporran was the better option.(I do actually prefer the day sporran)
I'm awaiting delivery of 3prs of lowland spats which I intend to dye or blanco green, beige and black.Does anyone have any tips on the best way to do this?
Once again many thanks guys,it's nice to be able to communicate with others who have a passion for the kilt!

I forgot to add that I normally wear a Black Watch Tam o' Shanter with my old brass REME cap badge but I'm trying to opportunities to wear the Glengarry a little more because I do think it adds swagger to ones outfit.
Being an ex-squaddie I feel very comfortable in Military clothing/Uniform but I was a little concerned that I may have over militarised my outfit.I think the trick is to find a happy medium.Have a nice day you kilted Rabble!😉

I will stick my newbie neck on the block and say I am also confortable with the " military " look however I also can go from totally casual to full military / band look with total comfort . I do try my best to ensure that the look is never slovenly, I have a plain glengarry which I use for band and civ use however unless I am dressed correctly ie wearing a tie I will not wear it , I also have a diced one which I have not worn yet , I am aware that dicing is regimental but I am also aware that it was decoration on all bonnets incl my feather bonnet and I quite like the diced look . I don't have any Balmorals yet once again cost factors . Once I have obtained one I will wear it as it should be worn . I would never disrespect any regiment or branch of service by wearing any of their uniform incorrectly an ex Black Watch gentleman gave me a spare bonnet badge and told me if I wanted to attach it to my feather bonnet he would be very proud provided of course I did so with a red hackle to honour the regiment . As always your conduct is the best way not to wear any highland garb incorrectly .

What are Lowland spats, and how do they differ from Highland regimental spats?

One daywear look I've experimented with is wearing standard (non-military) low-cut felt spats. The same as men used to wear with trousers. It's not a traditional Highland look, but I do think it adds a nice touch.

Hey Buddy, the lowland spats look very similar to normal/classic low cut spats and are made of Linen.I like the look of yours by the way, that's the kind of look I'm going for.

Love the look of spats with a uniform and hated the work to keep them looking perfect as I recall. They have for the last one hundred years or so, been almost the sole domain of military pipe bands or highland regimental dress uniforms. While I like them, I do think that they look a bit out of place in today's highland dress, mind you they look a damn site better than some accessories I've seen at Highland games or formal events!
Personally have a hard time with militarizing highland attire unless there is a highland/scottish regimental connection.

I wish I had bookmarked it, but I distinctly remember an old B&W photo being posted here in which the "traditional" gentleman in a kilt was wearing low spats. Given the photo I deduce they were a medium shade, certainly not white or light colored. If you can wear paramilitary "traditional" Highland jackets and other paramilitary accouterments with a kilt, just to be "traditional," you certainly ought to be able to wear spats, although the height and color probably ought to be more civvie. I've considered running down spats, too.

Spats and gaiters were once popular not only for decorative reasons but they had a practical side too , white spats are a mission to keep white but I must admit a band or unit with shiny white spats looks very neat , I also like the idea of spats bieng grey etc and I see no reason why they can't be worn with highland dress especially day dress not to mention the practicality of protection your shoes from excess dust stones etc . And was said before " I have seen worse accessories at a highland game "

I'm stretching here, but I recall reading somewhere that the reason kilted regiments wear white leggings or spats is to commemorate some long slog through the snow. What say you?
