    Ghillie Brogue laces leaving marks

I got a new pair of ghillie brogues and wore them with cream colored hose. The shoes are from Thistle Shoes and made in Scotland and not a knock off pair from elsewhere. The laces left black marks on the hose that have been difficult to remove. I am planning on just replacing the laces unless someone knows what I can do to the current laces to ensure that they don't ruin another pair of hose.

Burn 'em and use short laces. That "up-the-leg" stuff isn't really necessary anyway.

I cheerfully despise ghillie brogues. If I never had to tie those ill-conceived, woe-begotten ligatures around my ankles again, I'd consider myself fortunate!

    Agreed! That's what I do.

And if one is determined to wear the long laces tied up the leg, it's better to go with a coloured hose that more easily hides minor colour transfers from the laces.

Gentlemen, short laces with ghilie brogues? I've been wondering how that would work or look.

I have an unworn pair of ghillies, purchased before I decided that I didn't want to wear the long laces up the leg. If I can get some use out of them, so much the better.

Aside from fashion advice, here's a trick that I have used to keep colored leather from fading onto my clothes. Coat them with un-dyed paraffin, and then use either a candle flame or a heat gun to melt the wax enough to soak in. It worked on the baldric of my gladius that decided my off-white Roman tunic needed a red stripe diagonally across the chest. Supposedly suede water proofing spray also works, but being the type to prefer old methods, I haven't tried that one yet.
