What cheeses ME off is that they are the only ones- I don't know if there is some problem with illicit traffic between US/CAN, but the problem only exists here over a supposedly "Free Trade" border.
Downunder Kilt holds the record of receiving my fastest-to-date shipment to AUS, at 7 days (actual, not business days) door-to-door. The UK regularly processes things in 2-3 days as well.
I've heard from the staff at my local post office that they've been getting complaints from customers about the delays... (not that it's USPS's or CAN/POST's issue).

My last package from the States sat at the border for 4 or 5 days. That was a couple of weeks ago.

I had sporran sit there for 2 weeks before they decided to return to sender. It is coming up with some friends who spend winters in Florida next week.

Was there a problem with clearance? That's very odd. The very few times I've had a problem arise Customs has always called me (the sender) to clear things up- Even that one time when the customs people in Spain had no blasted idea what the heck a "Sporran" was (even though it was clearly tagged with the appropriate description of (Leather bag, mens) and the appropriate HS code.

It was more question of the fur it was made from, I suspect the seller may have had some issues in the past shipping some exotic skins across the border and may be flagged with the customs agency. Mine was only a beaver skin, I suspect rather than having a expert on staff to identify furs it's easier to reject them where documentation doesn't appear to support it.

AH, that's a different story entirely.
US Fish & Wildlife regulate all trade in "Wild" or "Game" animals. Even if it is not a protected specie they are supposed to inspect it. If it was caught at customs and delivered to USF&W then it would certainly explain the delay. The license for Commercially importing or exporting 'game' is $100/yr. There is an inspection fee as well. So even though beaver is a legal fur to ship, it is illegal to ship it without an inspection.
This does not apply to farmed/domesticated animals. (Goat/pig/cow/horse)
