Hello, I have had very good luck with Duplicolor vynyl and fabric dye avaiable at any automotive supply store or big box. The dye covers well and goes on easily, covers well, and is extremely durable. I've used it on a lot of fabric items including pith helmets, web belts, and yes spats. Some ideas would be blue, maroon (would look spiffing with a tartan that has reds or maroons), black, tan, and so forth. The posibilities are only limited by the imagination. What about tartan spats?
